Episode 08: Just Dooo It! How to Overcome Posting Paralysis and Take Action
*Warning* We've got a bad case of the "swears" in this episode so don't play this around little ears.
In this, the season 1 finale, we're talking about taking (imperfect) action - getting out of your head, ditching the overthinking, and showing up in order to build momentum in your business.
This session covers:
The power of taking action
Common reasons for not posting - and how to overcome them
Switching your focus from consuming to creating content
7 Reasons you’re not posting (and what to do about them):
You don’t know what to post: Struggling with post ideas? Go back to your audience (target market) - what are their wants, needs and struggles? Not sure who your target market is? Get our free Ideal Customer Avatar Worksheet via the link below
You’re overthinking it: Ditch perfectionism and don't be afraid to experiment.
It's important to create high-quality content, but it's also important to remember that it's okay to make mistakes and that you don't have to create perfect content all the time. Try out different types of content and see what resonates with your audience. You’re camera shy: Action creates confidence. Everyone’s first videos/posts/blogs are awful! Remember, it’s not about you - your audience are following you for a reason - by showing up you’re serving them.
Practice being on camera by facetiming (video calling) someone you trust, or recording a voiceover on your videos
You’re consuming rather than creating content. Set limits for your content consumption or “research” and set aside dedicated time in your week to create content
You don’t have a content plan. Knowing what to post is 90% of the work. Take the time to map out a plan for your business - think about what your audience needs and what you want your account to be known for. It doesn’t have to be fancy, a simple list will do.
You’re not getting the results you want, so you give up. Be sure that you’re measuring the right metrics for “success” and, shake things up if necessary. Want help? Book an audit for Instagram or TikTok review with Clem + Kryshla
It takes too long! Lean into content formats that you find easy to create (e.g. Stories vs Reels) and, when you invest time in content creation, ensure that whatever you create can repurposed across multiple platforms - such as a long-form blog post that can be cut up into multiple social media posts.
When you find something that works, rinse and repeat.
In summary, taking imperfect action is better than doing nothing. If you take one thing from today’s episode it’s this: That you need to hold yourself accountable (or get someone else to!) and focus on the ACTIONS you take, rather than the results - because that is what’s in your control.
